Dear Pipeman,
So far, things are on track for 2010. I recently returned from the Chicagoland pipe show where I released two new titles: a reprint of Jan Andersson's Bo Nordh, Pipemaker and The Loewe Pipe Packet. Both books were met with much interest; orders were brisk. I encourage you to look at both items for your library. Don't be concerned if you don't smoke Loewes or even can afford an estate Nordh, the point is to immerse yourself in the lore of the briar, doing it in a fun, intersting, and classy way. I can assure you that these new books will deliver that to you.
As to the balance of 2010, here's the plan:
I have committed myself to attending both the 26th annual CORPs show in Richmond come October and the 2nd annual Las Vegas pipe show in November. As always, I will have plenty of my books for you to select from. I hope to see you there.
For new titles, I am working on something special for the holiday gift-giving season, and I'm calling it the The Pipeman's Christmastime Companion Set. Much like pipes were sold in the first half of the last century two to a fitted case, I have sourced two very special and quaint Dunhill Christmas catalogues from 1914 and 1923 which I will be selling as a set, one within the other. Extremely few people have ever seen these two delicious items as they were never released outside of Britain. (The late Dunhill collector extraordinaire John Loring told me months prior to his passing, that even he'd never seen either in original or complete form.) As usual, I will send a postcard advert to every one of my clients notifying you when the book is ready for purchase; I'm planning for soon after Thanksgiving. (If you've not ordered a book from me before, drop me an email and I will add your name to the mailing list.)
After almost two years in print, Confessions of a Pipeman will have a new look as a second edition--50% superior to the first--and it will be ready for purchase some time by early- to mid-fall. This edition will be in an all-color format. More irreverent but sound counsel from this pipeman.
Now, you ask, when on earth will The History of the Calabash Pipe be reprinted? Previously, I told you I would have it done later this year. Regrettably, I have decided to put it off for one more year, to Christmas 2011. Why? Basically, the book needs fixing, and a lot of it. It was my first attempt at writing and book production, two very separate crafts, I can assure you. I have learned much in the entervening years since its release in 2006. I want the new edition to be very special. No one else will probably ever do a piece on this pipe like I attempted, and I want to make absolutely certain it is as accurate and definitive as it will be a small masterpiece of pipe lore. Please allow me this and I will guarantee you more than your money's worth.
Finally, I have begun a new book-buying program: The Pipeman's Library. Earlier this month, at the United Pipe Clubs of America (UPCA) annual meeting at Chicagoland, I outlined my new program to make my pipe books more accessible to American pipe clubs. Essentially, the books are available at a lower cost, and there's rebate that gets paid to your club. This site will be updated in the next few weeks with full details of the program. So please check back.
Thank you for your continued patronage.
Best wishes for a wonderful year.
